  • The leader of West Midlands Police Federation is welcoming police officers from across the UK and overseas to Birmingham this week for the annual national conference of the Police Federation of England and Wales which is being hosted in the city for the first time. Tom Cuddeford, chairman of the West Midlands Police branch of the staff association, says the conference, which is being held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) tomorrow and Wednesday (16 and 17 May) will provide a great opportunity to showcase Birmingham and all it has to offer.

  • As you may be aware, in the Autumn statement 2016 the Chancellor announced a further increase in the standard rate Insurance Premium Tax (IPT). This increases the previous standard rate of 10% to 12% and is effective 1st June 2017. Due to this, your monthly premiums to the Federation insurance schemes will increase.

  • Pay and morale: have your say

    We need you to take a moment to fill in a pay and morale survey – which will be used to inform the Government of your views. From today (Tuesday 18 April) the survey is available to all rank and file officers across the country. It takes about 15 minutes to complete and will remain open until 18 May.

  • Officers from West Midlands Police Federation will be making a poignant trip to London today for the funeral of PC Keith Palmer. Thousands of police officers and staff, as well as other emergency service workers and members of the public, will line the streets of the capital ahead of the full police service funeral which is being held at 2pm at Southwark Cathedral. PC Palmer was stabbed to death in the Westminster terror attack on 22 March which left four people dead and around 50 people injured, including three other Metropolitan Police officers.

  • Here for You: Our Work in 2016 booklet has been sent to all members home addresses. It is now available to view online. This annual report outlines West Midlands Police Federation’s work on members’ behalf throughout 2016. It gives an overview of the advice offered, the representation given and the Federation’s communication streams. It also sums up the activities of its three key committees - Personnel and Equalities, Health and Safety and Conduct and Performance Liaison Officers (CaPLO) - formerly known as the Discipline Committee.
