The West Midlands Police Federation office will be closed on Monday 28th April from 09:30 - 11:30 to enable staff to attend the funeral of the popular PC and Federation representative Mick Chapman who died suddenly last week.
Leaders of West Midlands Police Federation have paid tribute to a popular PC and Federation representative who died suddenly yesterday. Mick Chapman, who would have been 49 next week, had been a Federation rep since 2006 and was a former secretary of the Federation’s Constables’ Branch Board.

Responding to the House of Commons Public Administration Select Committee (PASC) report: ‘Caught red-handed: Why we can’t count on Police Recorded Crime statistics’, Paul Ford, National Detectives’ Forum Secretary, Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) says; “The PFEW contributed to and fully support the recommendations within this report. Public trust and confidence are without doubt central to an effective police service. However, the ambiguity that currently surrounds the recording of crime statistics undermines that trust and work must be done to restore this.

The Chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW), Steve Williams, has today - Monday, 7th April - announced his plans to retire from the police service at the end of May. Announcing his decisions to members he said that “the timing was right for a new Chair to take over the running of the organisation.” Mr. Williams was instrumental in commissioning the Independent Review into the Police Federation in 2012, a decision welcomed by many from across the political landscape, in the wake of the Plebgate incident and after confidence in the organisation was severely tested.
