  • Assaults bill backed

    Statistics for the number of West Midlands Police officers who were spat at during 2016 were quoted in Parliament during the latest reading of the new assaults bill. Rhondda Labour MP Chris Bryant has championed the Assaults on Emergency Services (Offences) Bill on the back of the Police Federation’s nationwide Protect the Protectors.

  • The newly appointed Home Secretary needs to review policing policy as well as considering the Home Office stance on immigration, according to West Midlands Police Federation acting chair John Williams. Sajid Javid, MP for Bromsgrove, was named as the Home Secretary yesterday, taking over from Amber Rudd who resigned on Sunday in the wake of the Windrush scandal and after misleading Parliament about targets for removing illegal immigrants
