GIS – LIFE ASSURANCE
Serving Officer Pay out of £115,000 for death from any cause
Inc. Spouse Pay out of £57,500 for death from any cause
Benefit levels and premium rates change on retirement. Life cover ceases at age 70. Partner benefit levels depend on the age of the officer. The benefit is payable to the named beneficiary(s) whom you have stated on your beneficiary card. The benefit can be shared between as many beneficiaries as you wish. If a child is named as a beneficiary, the option to place the benefit into a trust fund until they reach a specified age is available.
If there is any change of circumstances it is vital you contact the Federation as soon as possible to check your beneficiary is up to date. Failure to do this can affect any claims.
A top-up to your Life Assurance pay out is also available. Click here for details.

Under normal joining conditions, members can insure a spouse within 3 months of marriage or a partner within 3 months after they have lived together for 6 months. If you fall within this criteria then simply fill out and return the GIS partner cover application form at the top of this page.
If you wish to insure your spouse/partner but do not fit the above criteria, the underwriters will accept spouse/partners at any time provided they meet the requirements of a health declaration. Under these circumstances simply fill out and return the GIS partner cover (Late Joiner) application form.
If your spouse/partner does not meet the requirements of the health declaration, and their health conditions are not likely to change, we will be unable to provide you with insurance. However, you can phone George Burrows on 01603 828 280, who will endeavour to arrange alternative insurance for you.
