RETIREMENT

Retirement Reg 14 Annex D Determinations

An officer may retire only after giving the police authority one months written notice of his/her intention to retire or such shorter notice as may be accepted by the police authority.

An officer who is suspended under conduct regulations may not retire without consent of the Chief Officer of Police.

A police pension becomes payable when the officer has:

Compulsory Retirement Age for Police Officers

As from the 1st October 2006 the compulsory retirement age (CRA) for officers will be 60 for federated ranks and 65 for superintending & ACPO ranks.

It is important to emphasise to officers that pension ages and CRA are separate concepts. Officers will not be disadvantaged by the new arrangements if they choose to retire as they expected to at their former CRA. In other words, officers will still be able to retire and get an immediate pension and lump sum at their former CRA, or they can continue working up to the date of their new CRA.
